4 Effective Memory Improvement Techniques

 

Everyones had problems recalling important information every now and then.  Youve forgotten where you put your keys, or you just cant seem to remember names as well anymore.  Its completely normal to have small memory lapses every now and then, but if it happens on a regular basis, you may need to do something. There are a few techniques you can use to increase your mind power and aid in your memory improvement.



1. Use associations.  


Associations can really help when youre trying to remember someones name or any other piece of information. For example, whenever you meet someone new and they tell you their name, try to find an image that you can link with their name. Your brain thinks in images.  This is why its so much easier to recall an image than words. By linking an image to whatever it is you want to remember, youre helping to cement it in your mind. The image you choose can be anything you want. It can be silly or practical, as long as its something youll remember.


2. Pay attention to details.  


Every chance you get, take some time to look at every detail around you, even small ones.  Keep thinking of them until you feel youll remember them. Does the room feel cold or warm? Are there any smells you recognize? What color are the walls, floor, and ceiling? What sounds do you hear? You can do this with people as well.  What color hair and eyes do they have? How tall are they? Do they smell good? What clothes are they wearing?  How does their voice sound? If you do this often, it will become a habit, and youll start to remember small details much easier.

   

3. Use entertainment to increase your mind power.


The more you develop your mind, the stronger it becomes.  This helps a lot with your memory.  There are great ways to develop your mind and have fun at the same time.  You can play challenging games like Sudoku, crossword puzzles, and trivia games. You can also read books or watch movies like mysteries that require you to remember details to piece together the mystery. They also have some great memory improvement games to play on different game systems like Nintendo DS or Game Boy.   As you can see, increasing your mind power doesnt have to be boring.        

4. Increase your fitness level.


Many people dont realize that you need exercise for your brain to function at its peak performance. Exercise supplies your brain with necessary oxygen.   If you dont get enough exercise, you may start to notice problems with your memory.  You could also lose focus and not be able to think as clearly as you once did. Staying fit can help you with all of these problems. So if you want to improve your memory, you might want to start walking, swimming, or anything else that gets your heart pumping.

Your memory may not improve overnight, but you will see results if you follow the techniques above.  Of course, the more you use them, the more they will help. After a while theyll start to become a habit for you, and your memory will continue to get stronger and stronger. Youll never have to wonder where you put your keys again.
