7 Reasons to Get More Sleep Each Night

 

Sleep affects several different areas of you life. This means that when you get enough sleep these areas are improved. When you dont get the sleep you need, these areas suffer.  Getting plenty of sleep is one of the most important things you can do for your physical and mental health. Here are 7 reasons you should get more sleep. 

 

  1. Weight- The majority of people always want to lose a few pounds. Studies have shown that sleep plays a huge role with your weight. When you get sleep, your metabolism is higher, so you burn more calories.  If you go without sleep constantly, you can lower your metabolism drastically.  This can actually cause you to gain weight.

  1. Mood- You mood is largely affected by the amount of sleep you get each night. When youre well rested, youre happier and more pleasant to be around. When you dont get sleep, you probably become cranky and hard to deal with. So its really in everyones best interest that you get the sleep you need.

  1. Memory- While sleep is not the only factor that can affect your memory, it can have a large effect on it. When you dont get enough sleep, its easy for you to start to forget small things like where you put your keys, or you could even forget large things like when the proposal at work was due. Getting plenty of sleep will actually help to improve your memory.

  1. Focus- Almost everyone wants to be able to focus more, especially towards the end of the day.  Sleep can give you the energy to keep going, and it can help you stay focused on your work. When youre more focused, you can perform better and get more done. Youre also more creative and better at problem solving when you can focus.

  1. Health- If you get sick often, lack of sleep may be to blame.   When you consistently go without the sleep you need, your immune system is lowered.  This makes you more susceptible to viruses that are floating around.  By getting plenty of sleep each night, youll be much healthier throughout the year.

  1. Stress- Getting the sleep you need can actually help reduce stress.   When you sleep, your body releases stress reducing hormones. If you dont get enough sleep, youll lose the benefits of these hormones. In fact, your stress levels will be much higher.   When youre tired, it becomes more difficult to deal with problems that arise, making even small situations seem impossible.

  1. Safety- When you dont get the sleep that you need on a regular basis, you can endanger yourself and others. A lack of sleep can slow your reactions, which makes it very dangerous for you to drive a car or operate any kind of equipment. It can also impair your judgment and make you more accident prone.

    As you can see, there are many reasons to get plenty of sleep.   Of course, its not always easy to get the sleep that you need. If you have trouble sleeping, you should try to pinpoint the cause, so you can work on curing it.  There are also techniques like brain entrainment that can help as well.
